This year, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area (BGC Austin) is proudly celebrating the 5th Anniversary of their flagship location, Home Club on the Sheth Family Campus, which was formally recognized in April in a Proclamation from City of Austin Mayor Kirk Watson.
Home Club opened its doors in April of 2019, serving as a transformational resource for thousands of youth and families in the Austin metro area.
Since 2019, BGC Austin has welcomed over 4,500 youth, provided over 1 million meals, and distributed over 1.2 million school supplies through Home Club alone.
To commemorate the 5th Anniversary of Home Club, BGC Austin held an intimate reception on May 22nd to recognize the people who played an integral role in bringing the center to life, most notably Brian and Adria Sheth, who generously underwrote the construction of the building via their philanthropy, the Sangreal Foundation, and who have also contributed significantly to BGC Austin’s ability to provide scholarships to youth in need.
Additionally, BGC Austin recognizes the contributions of Board Chair Mario Zambrano, who served as Interim CEO at BGC Austin throughout 2023 and led the effort to recruit current CEO Zenae Campbell from Boys & Girls Clubs of Houston, by presenting him with a statue of Super Mario, as a nod to his nickname at BGC.
At the May event, Board Members Sean Kelly and Gavin Turner also recognized Zambrano’s contributions by announcing that the BGC Austin Scholarship Fund, which makes it possible for youth in need to attend Club and summer camps for free, would be named the David Guillermo Zambrano Villarreal Memorial Scholarship Fund Scholarship Fund in honor of Zambrano’s late father.
We also want to take a moment to mention the many other benefactors and donors who contributed to Home Club, such as: Terrell Gates, BGC Board Member and CEO at Virtus Real Estate Capital; William Talbot, BGC Board Member and former CIO at American Campus Communities; American Campus Communities; Karen and George Casey, Bill and Yolanda Hine; Ivan and Jody Misner; Larry Meyer; Jimmy Nasser; Gomez Family; Greenawalt Family; the Nelson Puett Foundation; St. David’s Foundation; and the entire BGC Austin Board of Directors.
“We celebrate those who have carried the weight of bringing us to where we are today,” said BGC Austin CEO Zenae Campbell. “It’s important to recognize the collective effort that has brought us to this moment. From the architects and builders who designed and constructed this beautiful space to the staff who fill it with energy and love every day. Each one of you has made a significant impact.”
